Also today, I judged speeches at the 9th/10th Academic Octathlon for the OC Department of Education. I had a blast! There were two others in my room judging, Ryan Fix and Neha ____. We set up our room, we worked out the bugs, then we let the 9th/10th graders in to give their speeches. It was so fun! Well, I did have a headache to begin with, but after that subsided, I had great fun! Some of the people looked like scared deer! It was sad. Others were pretty expressive. The last guy was really committed to his subject. I enjoyed his presentation, even though the timer messed up on his speech. Did I really look like them two years ago?! Maybe that's why it's so easy to win in speech! About 80% of the people didn't even have 3.5 minute speeches!!! Grr... I even explained the timing procedure, and told them that under 3.5 minutes equals PENALTY!!! How sad! And these are the top of the top, cream of the crop?! I am rather disappointed. On the up side, they did give us free food... and as we all know, that's what it is all about. :)

Six-sided graduation caps: are they so bad? No. I think after four years of grueling IB work, we 22 deserve to wear something different to graduation. There are probably more than three reasons I can give you to defend my position on this subject: 1) we worked hard for this day and we should be recognized with something different and special, 2) the cap would look strikingly similar to the actual cap, save the number of sides of the board, and 3) people decorate their caps anyway, and in worse, more noticeable ways!

First of all, we IB people are not the slackers of the school, and obviously, we aren't looking to completely jeopardize the graduation tradition. In fact, why couldn't the six-sided cap become a tradition in the IB sphere? Maybe in 5 years, ALL IB schools will be doing this! Different?! What about leis? The lei tradition must have begun at some point. There's a first for everything. Why not now?! The six-sided cap is actually a brilliant idea. It's simple, it's classy, and it's different. I think we deserve to do something different like that after all our hard work.

Secondly, the cap would be EXACTLY THE SAME as the normal cap, except for number of sides on the board. The tassel would be the same, the color would be the same, the base would be the same, the size would be the same. How can I put this any plainer?! It'd be the SAME, except for the number of sides!!! It would hardly be noticeable. It would be a nice little dramatic irony for us IB people. It would make us feel special, and it might even encourage IB students to go all the way!

Lastly, there is already leniency in the graduation garb! People write "Hi MOM!" on their caps, people replace the tassels with various toys and the like, people color, people paint, people put buildings on their caps! Why not change the shape?! If it's because it's homemade, we'll just take the actually cap and stick a hexagonal board covered in red silk on the top! Grrr... why can't they understand that it means _a lot_ to us to wear this piece of garment to Graduation?! Forget the medal! It's just a medal. There's no speciality in that! I want the hexagonal graduation cap! I'm making 22 caps next weekend, whether they like it or not!

This morning (yesterday morning), Katia and I made eclairs for French class... yes, 5:30 am, we're crazy!!! Oh well. They taste pretty good!!! Yummy!!! :)

It's like 4:40 am right now, so I'll make this short. We went to see Star Wars Episode II: Attack of the Clones tonight. I can't say I particularly liked it. But then again, I'm against any prequels or sequels to any movie whatsoever. The opening scene immediately killed it for me. I was thinking, "again?" Anyway, Jar Jar should die. The coolest part about Episode II is the way things are lining up with Episode IV. Uncle Owen, Tatooine, etc. The Clone Wars... like I knew what that was before! Hah! And Gary is right, Yoda is one crazy guy! (note my lack of bad word-usage). Who would have thought he had it in him?! No wonder they call Yoda this great Jedi master. By the way, that was also cool... there were a bazillion Jedis in that one scene!!! Also BTW, I really don't like Natalie Portman for some reason. She's not a great actor. At least the guy who played Anakin made up for his bad acting with his good looks (well, sort of)... though I would say that Ewan McGregor was looking pretty good in Emma. YeOWW! Haha. :)

IB IS OVER! That's right, you heard correctly... IB IS OVER! Whether we get diplomas or not is NOT in our hands any more!!! Yay!

Well, I'm in a rather happy mood right now. I'm going to credit the weather for that one. It was great today. It was hot, it is still warm right now. It's so great... Hehehe... I did a mediocre job on both my tests today for History HL and English HL. Tomorrow is the second part of history, and I am debating whether or not to spend a lot of time studying. Today is turning out great. We went to Diana's house between the tests. That was a lot of fun, although Diana doesn't think so... I think it really was fun though. It was way better than sitting at school doing nothing. Everyone made themselves comfortable at her house, and I think some took it a little too far... I just hope I wasn't one of those people. Anyway, Sean did ignite a corndog in the toaster. That has got to be one of the highlights of my day. Hrm... no thoughts for today. Just relaxing... -Kunal

I forgot to write about this yesterday! We went to Diana's house yesterday! It was so fun! We got out our books and study materials, and we ate and studied for history! There were chips, Kool-Aid, pizzas, and of course, corn dogs. The studying in the midst of a party... it was my entire vision of Reed College! I love intellectual gatherings! Must go study for French and Music... which was what I was supposed to do an hour ago!!!

The history slaughter is finally over! Actually, now that I think about it, it wasn't really a slaughter. The history questions actually were quite fair. The bulk of them on Paper 3 were completely out of my league, but the Stalin, Lenin, and Russian Revolution ones were doable. I actually had fun writing the Russian Revolution paper. Writing is fun to me.

Today, I had lunch with my lunch bunch. Wow, there's something that hasn't happened in two weeks!!! I wish I could eat with them more often, but my schedule just does not allow it! I am so lucky to have such patient friends who understand. I probably would have a fit if one of my friends chose clubs over me. What a hypocrite I am! I have a lifetime to change that. Perhaps I can learn from Morrie and change my ways so that I can fully understand myself and the people and world around me. (that sounded like I knew something, right? Hah! I didn't even have a chance to finish the end of the book! I will, though, one day).

Tonight, I dined with the rest of the leadership from Scouts. Like Ashley said, shared moments. It's the fun things you remember, not the other things. Wow, my first time at a Red Robin... that's bound to come up in conversation in future years, when I'm sitting at a Red Robin in Oregon or something. I can't say we got a lot of work done, but if anything, it strengthened the bonds that hold the leadership together. If we could do the year over again, we should have done more social events within the leadership. I guess the whole friendship bond thing pretty much sums up what high school is about... yes, I'm going back into my "shared moments" ramble... so feel free to stop reading this if you've had enough of this rambling. We won't remember the work we did... we'll remember the times we shared. That sums it up. And, I was wrong about the Jr. Jam props... I didn't mention this before, but I saw the General Store up at the Spaghetti Dinner, and I instantly felt better about that whole subject. Now, I regret tearing the sign of the Jail... I had thought it was going to be trashed with the rest... I was wrong. Like Nora from A Doll's House, I should not have assumed so quickly.

I am very tired, and I must study for the French and Music IB tests for tomorrow. I love IB! (ask me again tomorrow, and see if that opinion changes!) :)

Tonight, I saw "My Fair Lady" at the Elizabeth Howard Curtain Call Theatre in Tustin. I probably have been to somewhere between 5 and 10 shows at the EHCC Theatre. I can't say that this was their best production, though the guy who played Doolittle was very convincing. The food has always been the same, but that just means that the Bernaise sauce was pretty good, as usual. Our waitor wasn't particularily friendly, but our busboy was a really nice guy. He had a smile on his face, and he talked with us as if we were people. The waitor, on the other hand, was a machine who just spit out the words he had memorized. Sad that he's the one to pick up the $20 tip! I had fun. As I sat there, drinking my Diet Coke with a very tropical lime slice on the edge of the glass, I realized how lucky I am to have the family I have. We do so many things, and my parents spoil the three of us so much. We're almost undeserving. Why did we have to be so well off?! I really really like dressing up to go places. Okay, I'm really tired, and I have two tests tomorrow and a PTSA banquet.

Prom was last night. I had so much fun! Yes, I'll admit I don't like dances because I just plain can't dance, but it's fun when all the rest of your friends are there. The "dressing up" part of prom was so fun. I went all around the place to get my nails done and my hair and make up. Earlier in the week, I got my shoes, and a couple weeks ago, my dress. I like my dress so much! It's in my closet right now. I'll probably take it up to Reed with me. They have some formal dances up there. Hehe. I have acrylics on my nails right now...

Okay, enough about my nails and attire... here's what happened last night...

Have you ever felt like a Princess? (Question to the girls only, of course) Well, last night, I can honestly say that I felt like Cinderella. I had the glass slippers, and I had the formal ball gown, and I had my Prince Charming. I'm pretty sure no one else reads this, so it'll be safe to write on here... I really did used to like Sean Dunnahoe probably back in 9th or 10th grade... but then he always hung out with Ashley, so I never could talk to him... I think it was his love for music that first attracted me... maybe... well, anyway, now it's a lot different. I have basically put school before a lot of things in my life (sometimes even before family). Then why, do you ask, was he my Prince Charming last night? Remember Pygmalion? "I shall always be a flower girl to Professor Higgins, because he always treats me as a flower girl, and always will; but I know I can be a lady to you, because you always treat me as a lady, and always will." (Shaw, Act V). I guess that would be the difference between Gary and Sean. Anyway, how's this for the truth chair?! Just the little things like opening doors, pulling out chairs, even bringing a stepladder to get into the car (more accurately, Pimpmobile, I believe they called it). And, yes, Gary does those things for Mary, but because we're just friends and probably never will be more than just friends, our relationship is like that of Danielle and the artist guy in "Ever After." And the truth of the matter is that he'd probably be the one to end up in the mud if we ever got into a physical fight in the mud (if you haven't seen the movie, you won't get it.). Haha. Well... I can't explain how much I absolutely enjoyed last night. Maybe it wasn't Prom itself. It was the people and it was the shared moments. Here's a shared moment for you: going north on the 710, looking for the 405 south but never finding it, and ending up in Bell city in LA county. What an adventure. What a shared moment.
