Life costs a lot. I went shopping today. I must have spent a couple hundred on various things: jeans, jacket (for Reed, of course, not here), sunglasses, dress, etc. Christina is back in town this weekend, so I changed my plans to volunteer for DSC, and we took a detour to the MainPlace Mall. I love shopping, but at the same time, it's so depressing. You end up with zero money. Zero. I got this really nice black dress for the band concert. I guess you could call it a little revealing... but it's not as bad as the other ones! I plan to fix it so that it won't be as revealing. We stopped at a cart that sold sunglasses. The guy stationed at the cart was pretty cute! Perhaps I didn't think that at first, but he was so funny! Maybe I think he's cute because I thought he was funny first... well, regardless, I bought a pair of sunglasses. I actually really did need sunglasses, so don't think I bought them just because of the guy (who was really cute, by the way!). We went to the Disney store. The Disney store is really cheap... not cheap in the "ce n'est pas trop cher" ou "bon marché" fashion... rather, in the "this will break as soon as I put it in my car" type fashion. I found a really cool ribbon dancer; it was only $6! No, I didn't buy it! But if anyone would like to get me a present... ribbon dancer! I wanted to go to Barnes and Noble, but I had forgotten my gift card at home. I need to buy Tuesdays with Morrie and a few other books just because. I think I shall be heading to Murph's one of these days. Just wait until Portland and Powell's Books! That'll be a fun-filled trip to the bookstore!!! Check out their website at Powells.com. This place is so awesome! It takes up an entire square block in Portland! I have much to do this weekend... why am I online?!

I finished up separating the piccolo part for Jupiter from the combined part. I can't print it out! Two days wasted!!! Hopefully Schroeder will be able to print it out for me. I don't know why people are intimidated by Schroeder. He's like a teenager in a grown up's body... but at the same time, he's probably one of the wisest people I know (not the smartest, the wisest... yes, there's a difference. Take TOK). Anyway, I must be getting back to other things.

Don't ever clap during a Memorial Day ceremony. Why are you clapping?! Have you ever stopped and wondered? You're clapping because one of the faculty served the country in war. They don't need to hear you clap. They know that you don't know what they went through. They know it, so why should we even fake it by clapping? No. It's a solemn occasion. Complete silence is more resounding than 2,200 pairs of hands clapping. Don't clap during a Memorial Day ceremony.

Also today, the Gallerie Saxonia opened. It's cute and professional. I like it. I wish I had submitted something. Oh well. I even got to play my flute... improvisation! Fun!

I just finished up my last board meeting for the AUHSD. I'll miss it. I enjoyed talking with community members and district officials. I still will keep contact with them. Amy Moore. She's our new Student Board Member. She's from Western High School, and she's a fairly good public speaker. She will do a good job as SBM.

I was talking to Mr. Brennan (apparently Dr. Brennan's younger brother, and an AP at Western High School). He was telling me about the college experience, and he was telling me about how his job fell into his hands. I should leave my doors open and my mind open. That's the only way to let the good things happen. Anyway, I promised to send him a postcard from Reed. I'll remember.

We did food day in TOK. That was great. Have you ever had salsa and cream cheese? It's great!!! Try some! The pudding cream puffs, I thought, were better than the whipped cream ones... apparently not to the other people. I may just revert back to the whipped cream. I thought pudding would have been better... that's why I made it the day before!!! I planned ahead!

The Phantom of the Operaat the OC Performing Arts Center... I need to see that! I want to see it!

We played Taboo in English today... umm... I mean, we read... Yeah... Anyway, Grace, Diana, Phillip, Marion, Judy, Ashley, and I won!!! Yay us!

Must get sleep...

I like carnations. I didn't think I liked them before, but they're actually pretty nice. I have about one and a half dozen carnations on my dining table right now from last night. They're a really nice dark burgundy color (naturally, I assume, because there's no ink bursting out of the stem). Carnations smell pretty nice, too. Roses used to be my favorite (and still are, as a matter of fact), but they smell like play dough! I guess the stereotype is that roses smell lovely... is that the only reason that the rose smells so sweet?! How's this for an actual, true opinion?! Roses smell like play dough! I do still like the shape of the rose, and I do still enjoy the difficulty in drawing true roses. Carnations are wonderful, though.

You know what's another good flower? The daffodil. I saw my first daffodil in Portland, at the Rose Garden (which, by the way, is a much nicer spot to get married than the Huntington Library). Daffodils are different. I like daffodils. And camellias. Camellias are great. They're so perfectly round. I love them! I didn't get to see the rhododendrum garden when I was at Reed, but I will get a chance to see them when I'm up at Reed. I'm sure they're just as lovely.

I had fun at the AP English test! I wrote about 1984 for my third essay question. It was about betrayal... how perfect! Anyway, French AP is tomorrow. Fun!

Sitting in band today, I was thinking about Holst's "The Planets"... I really want to play it well. It is such an awesome piece! The chorale part is so rich and beautiful. For some reason, I've been keeping a list in the back of my mind of music that I would like to hear at my wedding. I think the meno mosso from "The Hounds of Spring" still comes out on top, but the chorale from "Jupiter" is a close second, with "Elsa's" in third. Yes, I know that Elsa's has a story behind it that wouldn't be appropriate for a happy day such as a wedding... but the piece is so beautiful.

Wow, there are only 14 school days left! Nearing the end...

I'm in TOK right now. There's no point in coming to school anymore... there's nothing to do! Thus shows how school is centered around the AP tests (well, at least for the upper 5% of the school)... after the tests, and it seems as if learning stops. Learning should be ongoing... I'll like it at Reed.

Today, we did Student Board Member interviews. It's so tough to pick someone. I guess I can't reveal the winner, and I cannot discuss why he/she is the winner and others are not. I'll just say that it's really different being on the other end of the interview. Last year, I went in unsure about the outcome. As the part of the selection committee, I knew that by the day's end, we'd have a SBM. It wouldn't matter to us whether it's this person or that... one will be it... to each individual interviewee, the decision is the difference between "it" and not. Strange, I've never thought about that before.

Tonight was also Academic Excellence Awards night for Seniors. I'd rather not write about tonight. I'm way too tired, and I have an English AP test tomorrow.

As an aside, never ever sleep on the couch in the family room at my house!!! It is incredibly uncomfortable! I suggest the couch in the computer room or the couch in the pool room. Well, I should be off to bed...

While you're at it, take the Kingdomality test! I took it a couple years ago, and I was categorized "Prime Minister." Two years down the road, and my results are the same!

Your distinct personality, The Prime Minister might be found in most of the thriving kingdoms of the time. You are a strategist who pursues the most efficient and logical path toward the realization of the goal that you perceive or visualize. You will often only associate with those people who can assist you in the implementation of your plan. Inept assistants may be immediately discarded as excess baggage. To do otherwise could be seen as inefficient and illogical. On the positive side, you can be rationally idealistic and analytically ideological. You can be a bold decision maker and risk taker who can move society ahead by years instead of minutes. On the negative side, you may be unmerciful, impatient, arrogant, impetuous and impulsive. Interestingly, your preference is just as applicable in today's corporate kingdoms.

Generated on Sun May 19 22:27:24 2002.

Your Existing Situation: Working to improve her image in the eyes of others so as to obtain their compliance and agreement with her needs and wishes.

Your Stress Sources: Feels that life has far more to offer and that there are still important things to be achieved--that life must be experienced to the fullest. As a result, she pursues her objectives with a fierce intensity that will not let go of things. Becomes deeply involved and runs the risk of being unable to view things with sufficient objectivity, or calmly enough; is therefore in danger of becoming agitated and of exhausting her nervous energy. Cannot leave things alone and feels she can only be at peace when she has finally reached her goal.

Your Restrained Characteristics: Remains emotionally unattached even when involved in a close relationship. Circumstances force her to compromise and to forgo some pleasures for the time being. Capable of achieving physical satisfaction through sexual activity.

Your Desired Objective: Her need to feel more causative and to have a wider sphere of influence makes her restless and she is driven by her desires and hopes. May try to spread her activities over too wide a field.

Your Actual Problem: The fear that she may be prevented from achieving the things she wants leads her into a relentless search for satisfaction in the pursuit of illusory or meaningless activities.

Everyone needs to take this colortest! Thanks Gary for posting this quiz!

Apparently, the picture posting doesn't work. Oh well.

On the plus side for today, I went to the GSCOC Senior Recognition Tea and I went to the ROP Celebration of Success. Chocolate-dipped strawberries are my favorite!!! I got one of the Outstanding Senior Girl Scout awards... which was a complete surprise! They started naming off things I've done, then I realized that it was me when they announced my grade point average! At the ROP awards, I saw Mr. Holguin from the AUHSD Board of Trustees, and I got the 1st place scholarship for the Ray Gerace Memorial award. How exciting! I'm $750 closer to going to Reed! Yay! I didn't realize, though, how tired I was... I fell asleep after getting home at 6, and didn't wake till now.

Well, SBM Interviews tomorrow. Fun fun.

Last night, I saw this awesome movie! Everyone must see it! It's called Memento. I don't think I've ever seen such a clever movie! Not only is it cleverly written, but it is also cleverly executed. It is what I'd call a "thinking movie." Certain movies are just there for pure laughter, romance, or action. Others are there to make us think, hence, "thinking movie." Right now, I am scanning in pictures from Prom... Hmm... let me test out the picture posting capabilities of Blogger.com. Be right back.
