Today, I ran around campus going to various Paideia classes -- papermaking, shrinkydinks, and sock monkey theory. I made a sock monkey today! His name is Winston. I have a ton of things to do before classes start on Monday.

Do you ever feel like a fly on the wall? Tonight, I stood on the balcony of Bragdon II and watched the crowd after Stories from Troy mingle. I saved a mental snapshot for my memories... what life was like in college (or at least during Paideia) -- carefree and fun.

I watched My Fair Lady with Eliah, Jessica, and Lexi tonight. Afterwards, Eliah walked me back to my dorm. He is too sweet.

I must have missed out on high school. Tonight, I listened to Eric Weis tell stories from his high school days in Troy, Pennsylvania. My high school years were good, but I can't recall any specific incidences that were particularly funny or memorable. It almost makes me want to cry... I have an entire scrapbook of pictures and clippings, but not really any good stories behind any of them. At the end of his storytelling, the entire room of people (who filled up all of Bragdon main lounge) applauded, sending a wave of roaring sound toward the front of the room. It was amazing. I think I've found someone of whom I am jealous -- and there's nothing I can do about it.

Last night, I went on a tour of the tunnel. Dubbed "the Reed catacombs," the tunnel runs underneath Old Dorm Block, Asylum Block, and Eliot Hall. There is graffiti down there dating to long, long ago. I think this is the very first tour I've been on in which I was asked to "bring [my] own Sharpie" and to "feel free to leave [my] mark." I did.

I went to Washington yesterday with the Nuclear Reactor folks. We saw the Columbia Generating Station and LIGO (both at Hanford). Aside from the 5 hour drive (one way!), it was all fun. On the way back, we played a really fun game... I'll tell you all about it later. We'll get together and play it in the summertime.

Today, I went to some Paideia classes. I sat in the Special Collections and Archive presentation. Reed has a full set of the Diderot Encyclopedia. Yes, the actual thing! We saw some other rarities in the collection, and we got to see some pieces of Reedie history (various scrapbooks, photos, etc.). The Reed dances used to have waltzes and foxtrots... the girls had dance cards! I wish dances would be like that again.

I went to the third and final night of the Winter Concert Series of the Chamber Music Northwest. I heard some really dissonant music that I found hard to like, but then again I also heard some from Arvo Part (b. 1935) which was just BEAUTIFUL! If you ever get around to it, find a recording of Spiegel im Spiegel (Mirror in the Mirror) for Violin and Piano. It's simple, yet elegant. I loved it.

Today, I also did my second Emergency Drill for the reactor. Eliah fell and we had to get him to the hospital. I then went back to the Reactor and proceeded to fill out the NRC form. I called the NRC in the end to notify them of the Unusual Event. Overall, I felt it went very well.

Did you ever notice that all the guys I pine for have names that start with "J"? (Of course, there were others too, but I'm just amazed by the number of them who have J names!) So, way back in elementary school, there was John Jung. Hmm, there weren't very many through Jr. High. I guess you could count Jonathan Taylor Thomas. Then, Jonathan Jackson. (Yes, I know those two aren't "real" guys). Oh yeah, add Josh Groban to the list. I did date Jesse. There are a couple others... but I think I'm making Gary and Kunal worry already, so I'll stop.

I must do something productive before I go to sleep. Tomorrow, more E-drills!

I went to Lloyd Center today with Adam, Ben, Eliah, Megan, and Jessica. Ben was looking for a mini-fridge, and the rest of us were just window shopping. We saw Joe at the ice rink there... crazy stuff! I didn't buy anything (good job me!). It was fun, though, just hanging out at the mall. Today I also read my SOP's for the Reactor and I cooked some stuff... oh yeah, and I got some sleep and planned my Paideia schedule. Here's the site, just in case you didn't get it yet: http://sin.reed.edu/paideia.

Whats Your Type?

brought to you by Quizilla

Goodness gracious... that should be YOU'RE, not YOUR. "Wood" should be capitalized. Also, it should be "etc," not "ect." And you thought OUR Loara education was bad!!!
