I saw Bowling for Columbine tonight. There are some good questions there to be answered (about gun control and about the American culture in general). Why is it that 11,000 people in America are murdered by firearms every year and that only 60 or so are murdered by firearms in Canada or the UK or one of many other places? Why is it that the representatives at K-Mart wouldn't grant Michael Moore's request when it was just him and the two kids from Columbine HS, but that the K-Mart Vice President would when the press got involved? Why is it that the news focuses so much on the "black male" as the criminals, when there are probably just as many of other races (namely, caucasian)? Are we all so afraid in the US, that we shoot the person who trespasses, without finding out who it was that trespassed? So many questions, and so few answers. Why can't Americans just all be nice people? If this continues, maybe we're all better off in Canada or something.

Wow, I haven't posted in a while. Yeah, my first math quiz didn't go very well -- but then again, that's the way most of my classes work... I don't study for the first test, do poorly on that test, then study really hard to make up for it on future tests. I talked to my prof the other day about it, and he said that he isn't worried because my homework shows that I understand the material and he is confident that I understand it. I also talked with my faculty adviser, who told me that Joe Roberts's class is one in which "50% is a good score." In any case, I'm going to keep plugging along, as always, and hopefully do better on my next exam.

I attended a math talk on Visual Cryptography. It was pretty awesome. I think I want to get Mathmatica and/or Maple just so I can make some of them!

Apparently Mahatma Gahndi's grandson, Arun Gahndi, will be on Reed Campus on Wednesday to give a talk. I may attend, or not... Wednesdays are Ballroom Dancing and Reactor Lab. (In reactor, by the way, I only need three more checkoffs to get on Entry List A! ...at which point, everyone can come down here, and I can give you a tour of the Reactor... woo hoo!).

Spring Break is in a week. Thank goodness.

I had a wonderful weekend. We went to the Chinese Gardens in Downtown Portland on Friday, followed by a trip to a great Chinese restaurant. Since it was a dorm trip, Reed paid for us all! Then, Friday night, I heard Susan Smith's all-Bach recital. She is supposedly one of the best Bach pianists in the US. Also, Bobby came by here at 11 or so, and we cooked dinner (since he apparently slept through dinner at his house). We cooked chicken, rice, and peas. I learned that I like peas, after all! Whaddya know! I always thought I hated peas. Saturday, I went to volunteer at the Hospital (we did tie-dyeing). Also, I wrote my motet, and I saw Rob Fischel's thesis workshop for his musical that he is writing. It was pretty funny and very well done. I practiced flute that evening as well. Today (Sunday), I went shopping with Candy at the Clackamas Mall. I bought a nice black peacoat (is that how you spell it?). Cute. It was reduced from 149.99 all the way to 29.77! What a bargain! Since we got back, I've been reading Lucretius's The Way Things Are. Dinner at Commons was pretty good tonight. I can't believe the weekend is over already! Spring Break is in two weeks. AAA!!!
