Mary Catherine King asked if I'd help with the search for the Associate Dean of Student Services. I thought she meant that I could read through the cover letters and resumes _last week_ when I actually had time. Instead, I received them yesterday and I am frantically trying to get them done before I head off to Seattle. Perhaps she won't mind if I read them when school starts -- only, I know I'd mind if I had to do that. I guess I could read them on the train ride up. I know what kind of person I'm looking for, but I doubt that perfect person exists. I read through two last night before I went to bed, and it seems as if you need to combine their experiences to make them fully capable of fulfilling this position.

I had this weird dream last night about Sean Astin. Weird.

Our star lantern making class today went very well. we had probably 20 or so people show up, and we made tons of star lanterns -- we even found ways to improve the procedure.

The E-drill this morning for reactor was rather fun. They put lantern mantles (sp?) into people's clothing to make them "contaminated"... basically, the geiger counter would actually pick up a count rate higher than 100 above background. Crazy. And they had a mole... Jacob was really on their side. Grrr. Anyway, it was fun. Rachel became "unconscious" and I had to be emergency coordinator. I hope I have to chance to do that again... I'll do it better next time.

I spent all weekend shopping for my Paideia classes. If there's something I learned from all of this planning and leadership, it's that everything is flexible. When someone gives you a budget, there's room for a little bending -- nip and tuck here, add some there, etc. It's probably similar with time deadlines, too. I turned in my RAW app a day late, and yet I still was funded for my art project. I have always tried to be prompt and prepared, and it's uncanny how many people out there are not the same way.

I was reading my paper journal last night. The first entry of my Reed Journal talks about how many substance-free people I had met in my dorm. The ironic part about it is that I think all of those people I listed are no longer sub-free. It's a good thing I'm living in the sub-free dorm this year, or I may have lost my marbles. Really, there was nothing to do on Friday nights because everyone was out partying/drinking. I spent most of my Friday nights and weekends studying or doing work. Here, we stay up late playing Taboo and we talk about things in the hallway. I like the atmosphere. Yes, that may mean less studying... but life isn't all about studying. Life was meant to be lived for the moment. How many times can you say that you stayed up all night playing Scrabble, Taboo, and Cranium? How many times can you say that you went to a free Duncan Sheik concert? Or drove up to Seattle with complete strangers to hear Josh Groban on the phone? Or did so many of the wonderful things I've experienced here at Reed and around Portland? I'll miss it when I have to leave.

I've been neglecting this Blog. Too much stuff is going on here. I'm trying to get things done this weekend, but I don't think I'll ever finish it all. I'm working on my summer internship applications (well, I haven't started yet, but I plan on starting this week during Paideia).

There are some pretty awesome classes at Paideia this year. Michael Faletra is teaching a class on one of the Elvish languages from LoTR. Hahahha. I'm so there... even if my class is at the same time... we'll just switch off. I'm going to the Hobbit readings in Bragdon because I bought it before, and I never made time to read it before. I'm going to a class on Pentaque, which will be taught by three professors (one of whom is my ex-advisor). I might take a class on massage therapy, and I'm going to do the one on the game of bridge. We'll see what else I have time for.

My train leaves at 4 on Friday for Seattle. We're having a Josh Groban weekend.
