Went to Ben and Jerry's yesterday with Jesse (instead of doing my Hum paper!). No worries... I'm done with my paper now. Title: On the Value of Life. Fun times today! Moon festival tonight. Tomorrow, to SEATTLE!

I don't remember five-page papers taking this long to complete in IB... maybe it's because I'm trying not to BS here at Reed... Well, my paper is going well... Only two more pages to go... I have until 5 pm! Yay! I'm glad I shifted my emphasis from EVERYTHING to one focused topic about the Trojan value for life (as opposed to for timê and for arêtê). I love to write!

I hate seeing people I know when they are drunk. I'm not going to do that to myself. I'm glad I didn't go to the RKSK (a club on campus that gives away free stuff, like a communist "stuff" group) initiation tonight.

Working on my Humanities paper. Earlier today, I solved a Physics problem that the Prof deemed "very clever." Yay me! He apparently solved it using the law of cosines, whereas I applied what we've learned about vectors (also, some trigonometry). Yay math!

I saw "Waking Life" tonight; that is one crazy movie. The animation kicks ass! (There, are you happy, guys? I used a word I normally don't use). Still have four physics problems to do. Also, Hum paper is still due this Saturday... need to put it all together.

If you ever get a chance, read Hesiod's Theogony. It's the story of how the Achaian/Greek gods came to be. Aphrodite is not the goddess of love (as they told us in elementary school), she's the goddess of sex. Also, Eros is not her son, rather, he was created about the time Gaia formed (very, very early). Eros is the god of love.
If you don't have time for Theogony, read "Feminine Figures of Death in Greece," an essay by Jean-Pierre Vernant (from Mortals and Immortals: Collected Essays; Ed. Zeitlin, Froma; Princeton University Press). It is about the woman's role in Greek mythology. In terms of Death, the male figures associated with death are Sleep and Thanatos (beautiful deaths), whereas the women figures in death are Gorgo (monstrous, hideous) and Ker (black, grim, evil, horrible, sweeps down on humans to destroy them).
The Band Video's opening music and style is from Cowboy Boogie (I think). One of my dormies has the video. He's trying to get me to watch it. Gary, how could you?!

The Seattle Mariners are playing the Anaheim Angels this coming Sunday. The Gray Fund trip is going to the game in Seattle. I missed the meeting (to sign up) yesterday because I thought it was going to be today. (commence whiny crying session).

Gee, I hope spending time with Jesse won't interfere with my studies. Okay, seriously, I'm going to write my Humanities paper now. Here's the topic, just in case you have any bright ideas for me: "Closely analyze Homer's description of the two springs in Book 22 (lines 145-157). What does this passage represent about Troy and Trojan values in relation to the rest of the poem?"

Today, Jesse and I had lunch at 1 pm (I learned how to make a waffle!). We then walked into town with a couple other people. We went to a bike shop, then to the hardware store. I picked up all the materials to make my star lantern light up. It took like an hour to put together! After that, we lost the other two people, so we decided to go back. We stopped by some yard sales along the way. We stopped back at my room, so we could try to figure out how to get to the beach, but to no avail. So, we stayed here and put together the puzzle we had just bought at the yard sale. At some point, we were both so frustrated with the blue sky, that we just gave up on the puzzle. We could no longer eat at commons because it was closed by then. So, we went to the Thai restaurant down the street. Pretty good food! And RICE! After that, we came back. We picked up mail from the Gray Center, then I dropped off my purse... then we wanted to sneak into the Rhododendron Gardens... but there was someone there, so we didn't. After that, we lay on the grass for a little bit. Then, we went to the thesis tower to read some theses. (The math ones don't look that bad.) After that, we went back to Bragdon to pick up Jesse's stuff he had bought at the yard sales. We stopped at Bragdon for a bit to see the end of South Park: The Movie. After that, we went back to his dorm to watch another movie. We saw Saving Silverman... not as funny as I'd hoped it would be. Oh well. And, it's 3 am now. That's my day. Well, add the massive studying before lunch, and that's my day.
