Why is it that ONE hour photo takes ONE AND A HALF hours? I've done one-hour photo only twice, and in each instance, the promised time of return was more than an hour later. Why am I paying $6.99 for a service that I'm not even getting?! This is quite frustrating.

I went to UCI today with Lissa. First, I attended her Calculus class. The substitution rule, revisited! Woo woo. Yay math! Then, I spent the rest of the day with Professor Rick Lathrop (a Reed alumnus and professor of CS at UCI) and Dean Debra Richardson. I went to Rick's lecture at 10am, then I went to a Freshman seminar, at which he was speaking. We three had a nice lunch at a nice restaurant on campus (for only faculty? I don't know... it seemed so). Afterward, I spent some time with Rick, asking him lots of questions. Then, Nick Steffans, one of Rick's graduate students up for a PhD this June, went in for his dissertation conference with Rick. I sat in at their meeting. Another guy was there, too. I left at about 3:15. Overall, it was very informative and interesting. I may really considering going into research and teaching.

Lissa picked me up at 3:30, at which point we went to the Spectrum to get ICE CREAM at Coldstone. Yay Coldstone! We spent some time at Barnes and Noble, then we went home. Boy, I'm tired. Josh is on A&E tonight at 9... can someone tape it for me?! :)

Tonight, the Lunch Bunch met up again. THANKS for the bear, gals! I love it!!! :) We watched American Beauty at my house. I still like that movie. Yes, disturbing at points (okay, at many points), but everything works so well for it! I never realized how awesome the lighting was until I watched the DVD extra. Great movie. Katia has the scrapbook now (she drew the short straw). Hmm... we also watched my Josh Groban DVD! Woo woo! Josh Groban!

I'm at UCLA right now. Big Loara IB reunion! Who was here like two minutes ago: Gary, Phillip, Josh, Shoichi, Tina, Nina, Linh, and me. Teresa is somewhere right now, and Anthony is at class. We'll probably leave soon. Fun day.

Yesterday, Steph and I met Ashley for lunch at CSULB. There's a big blue pyramid there. At night, we went to the Horizons meeting (where we ate In N Out and talked to people we haven't seen in a long time) then we went to see Maid in Manhattan. Hahah. The guy at Wendy's looks just like the guy in the Coca-Cola Refreshing Filmmakers Award movie!!! And then there was that lady doing the "jig"... hahahah!!! Napkin drawings, circles, Shane, Australian guy, etc. etc. etc. Good times! :)

Back by popular demand: To get your transcripts from IBNY sent to your college, call the IBNY transcripts department at (212) 696-4464. You'll need to know your ID number (for Loara, 1139-_ _ _. Know your three last digits). If they give you a time to call back (say, after lunch), realize that there is a time difference between here and NY.

Today, I went to Loara to talk to students about Reed. Wow, I feel dirty after that... it's me doing something I always hated other people doing: bragging about one's school without showing the audience other possibilities. Well, at least Reed is out there.

I walked Ranger at the park today, too. Talked to my dad about what I plan on doing for the Reed future and my years after Reed. I still am keeping law school as a possibility. Yes, I know Plato/Socrates and Aristotle promote happiness, but the fact of the matter is that money does matter just a slight bit! I know I'd be happier doing something that would further something (rather than being a general practitioner of law), but law would 1) make my parents happy and 2) make me rich... doesn't seem that bad from this perspective. So, as long as my end in law is not just practice, but rather something on the Supreme Court type scale, I will feel as if my life had purpose and meaning. I don't want to wake up one day and realize that my life passed by as Warren Schmidt's did (see the movie About Schmidt). I want to make a difference and I want to be happy during the process. Don't you just envy people like Josh Groban who always knew their passions, got to do things in those fields, and on top of all that, became famous for it. Maybe it'll happen... someday in the future.

I drove to Arcadia to visit Candy. Let me tell you this, NEVER EVER drive surface streets to Arcadia. It's not fun. There's a weird intersection among Santa Fe Springs Rd, Whittier Blvd, and some other street... yes, a three street crush. Woo. Wasn't fun. ...Candy and I went out to get Pho, then we went back to her place and talked and knitted and watched Josh Groban on DVD. I had fun. It was nice seeing Candy again... it was like being at Reed, minus the work.

I got home at around 5:30 pm. We did dinner, then we went shopping. I bought a nice black turtleneck-type thing. I came home and made caramel flan. If you want some, stop by sometime tomorrow (well, today, I guess). I fell asleep and woke up at about 1. That brings me to being online as I am now.

I feel like I wasted this break... but maybe I didn't... this is perhaps the first actual BREAK I've taken in my entire life. Too bad I feel guilty for not studying, or else it would have been perfect.

Here are the movies I saw over the break: LOTR: The Two Towers*, Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets, Two Weeks Notice, Overnight Delivery, About Schmidt, While You Were Sleeping*, Gattaca, The Hours, Veggie Tales: Tales from the Crisper, The Importance of Being Earnest, The Usual Suspects*, Catch Me if You Can*... Hmm... did I miss any? ( * denotes movie I really really liked)

There's a really cute Josh Groban interview at: http://www.ne.jp/asahi/josh.g/eternalflame/transcript_suprise.html. I talked to JOSH GROBAN three days ago!!! Josh Josh Josh! :)
