I met some people from Australia and New Zealand today -- they were very nice. The latter were telling me about how they saw many of the actors from LotR walking around their town, while they were filming the LotR movies. Wow... I wish I had been there.

I went to the Block with Esther from BAB. Mmm... Tazo chi latte. Then, we went to Cafe Tu Tu Tango. I have only been there once before (and that was at the City Walk by Universal Studios). It was pretty good -- probably not worth the price for the food, but definitely worth the price for the atmosphere -- there was a guy painting in the lobby area of the restaurant. There were paintings all over the place in there -- everything was so darn artsy. It was great. I'd like to go there another day just to look around and such. What a great place to be. We ate out on the patio, because, well, I can't do that in Portland. It was totally cool! They stamped the specials on our placemats (yes, literally STAMPED them with a rubber stamp). Then, our server came around, introduced himself as Anthony, then stamped his name on our placemats. What a cool restaurant!

Some of the nicest people walk into Build-A-Bear, and then some of the grouchiest people do, too. I can't take it any more. This Saturday shall be the last day I'll ever work there. Just in case you are interested in dropping by, it's a "Sock Hop party" all Saturday and Sunday... I need to muster up some sort of 50's looking outfit by Saturday. Grr.

Do I have enough time to take 5 classes next semester? I'd like to put more effort into my schoolwork (and less into the extracurriculars), but that seems impossible with the addition of Music History on top of my already-full schedule. I'm definitely leaving the Q-center, which may have been my easiest job at Reed yet; I have no free time when the Q is open. I have already promised to tutor at the Math Center. I can take myself off the private tutoring list. I'm not leaving the Reactor or the health center. ...and I've already committed myself to teaching Physics at the elementary school. So, maybe it won't be that bad. I'm going to definitely study a lot more for Physics, now that I've decided that it should be my major subject.

Life in Anaheim is really inconvenient without a car. My sister took hers to UCLA, my mom goes to work and my brother takes another to school. My dad runs errands a lot of the day. So, I'm stuck at home without a car. At Reed, it's no problem -- just walk somewhere. Here, walking anywhere fun is really far away... well, except for Disneyland, I guess. In any case, just to get to a friend's house on Crone or Orange Ave... that's really far away! I miss having a car. :(

My brother and I went to see the Ducks game tonight at the Pond. We scored in the first few minutes of the game -- that was pretty exciting. The final score was 2-2, after a scoreless overtime. The last time I went to a hockey game, it was way back in the Ducks's first season -- 11 years ago. Wow, I remember falling asleep at that one. Hockey is pretty exciting -- a lot more exciting than football or baseball. Anyway, I had my 1st season Duck call I got from Disneyland, and I was all decked out in winter gear. I might see more hockey games in the future -- too bad it is an expensive sport to watch at the arena. I think the "cheap seats" are in the $30 range.

Anaheim is way cool. This is for all of you out-of-town folks. :) Money Magazine "set out to find where people are moving to find day-to-day comforst, good public education, and economic opportunity." Here's the list for the Western U.S., for cities larger than 100,000 in population.

http://money.cnn.com/best/bplive/cities_table/

Rank/City/Population/Increase from 1990/Median household income/Median home price
1 Plano, TX 271,090 113% $82,857 $191,520
2 Anaheim, CA 343,855 29% $52,196 $340,000
3 Scottsdale, AZ 223,181 70% $59,596 $263,500
4 Santa Rosa, CA 152,450 24% $54,537 $349,500
5 Irvine, CA 150,450 32% $77,662 $430,000
6 Orange, CA 134,506 22% $63,451 $385,000

I saw LOTR: Return of the King again last night. Yeah, it was a lot better the second time through -- I'm glad I watched the 1st and 2nd ones before going to see the 3rd again. Everything makes sense! Might I say that it was pretty clever of them to film it all at the same time -- there's a sort of continuity that is in this trilogy that the Star Wars Trilogy (and now 6-film series) does not have. I think I may have enjoyed it more had I not had a headache and the hiccups going into it.

I go back to work at Build-A-Bear today. I think I might not work there after this week -- ever again. I like the atmosphere, but it kills my throat. The management expects us to talk the entire time we're working. I think I lost my voice the entire summer last year. Anyway, I won't make that mistake again, even if it means a free pass to Disneyland. Next summer, I'm probably going to work at DSC again -- it's a good-paying steady job. Or, if I am accepted into an internship sort of program at a place I'd like to be, I might do that.

And, as always, I miss Steven.
